Piplan is a town (tehsil), situated in southern Punjab, Pakistan. It is in the district of Mianwali which is situated on north, almost 52 km distant (by road), Piplan is surrounded by many other similar towns; in west there is Indus river, in South a Beautiful town Kundian and Mianwali, in east Harnauli and Qaidabad, and in North Kaloor-Kot.

History

Town (Tehsil) name 'Piplan' itself was given on historical basis before India-Pakistan (Indian continent) partition 1947, many Hindus used to live in Piplan and the proper name of this small town was Peepul or Peepul wala (Peepul: a fig tree, sacred Hindu tree also regarded by Buddhists called "bo tree", later (after partition of 1947) the name was changed to (peepul-aan)now written was Piplan. many people say the tree was located near to main railway station of Piplan, however tree has been cut.

Language

Though Piplan is a town of Mianwali but unlike Mianwali it has no Pakhtun tribe cultural influence. The whole belt of southern Punjab from Mianwali district to Multan city speaks Siraikimore or less People of Piplan also speaks the same dialect similar to Mianwali. those who speak Siraiki are called native people (local) on other hand Indian-migrated-Muslims are almost equal in population they speak Urdu or Slang-Urdu (Slang-Urdu also called Mahajeri, Rangeri still spoken in India). in education system only Urdu and English is spoken and written, but in offices and businesses Siraiki is commonly used.

There are total 56 unions in district Mianwali, 14 Tahsil Unions comes under Piplan administration are: Alluwali, Chak No 7 ML at Hafizwala, Dabb Balouchan, Doaba, Gujrat, Hernoli (RURAL), Hernoli (URBAN), Khola AT Khanqah Sirajia, Kundian -II, Kundian (RURAL), Kundian-I, Piplan, Tibba Mehrban Shah, Vichvin Bala.

Business and Trade

Agriculture is main source of income though between 1957-1981 Kohinoor Textile Mills was operational and was giving jobs to a lot of people in Piplan, it is said that mill was permanently closed due to financial crises and also bad behaviour of local peoples however many people of Piplan believe that labor crises became the core reason.

Piplan comes under irrigated zone of Pakistan. There are two main seasons Rabi (October-March) and Kharif(April-September); Rabi Crops included Wheat, Rape Seed/Mustard, Pulses, Kharif season include Groundnut, Sugarcane is grown around the year.
