Sillanwali

Sillanwali is a town now upgraded as a tehsil headquarter of Sargodha District. It is situated in the southern area of Sargodha, bordering with the Jhang district areas the famous Bhatiore area. The town was developed in the late 19th century during the rule of the British empire. It was planned to be an agricultural business hub called "mandi" (Literal meaning wholesale makrey) in the local language. It was a planned town, developed after canals were developed for agricultural purposes and a railway line was established. Even today, the railway station Sillanwali is known as "Sillanwali Mandi" in railway records. Before the partition, Sillanwali was famous for the production of cotton. Most of the population was Hindu Khatris who migrated to India after partition and their property was taken over by the Muslim Sheikhs (having Khatri Origin) mostly belonging to Karnal district of Haryana state which was then part of united Punjab.

The adjoining villages are dominated by Jatts, Bhatti, Kalyar, Haral and Chadhar tribes of the local Kirana Bar area origin. During the last quarter of the 19th century right after the start of new irrigation system, Jatt tribes of Sialkot settled in then undeveloped land. The villages where they own lands are highly developed as traditionally Jats are known to be good cultivators. Jatt clans in this area mainly belong to Ghumman, Bajwa, Waraich, Kahloon, Dhiloon and Cheema sub tribes of Jatt origin. After 1947, Jutt sikhs migrated to India and a number of immigrants have migrated to these villages after partition in 1947 and most them belong to Arain, Gujjar and Rajput main tribes.
